About Uganda Local Defence Unit (LDU)
Officially, the Local Defence Unit (LDU) is recognized by the Uganda government as a paramilitary security force that operates under the national Defence Force (UPDF) with the fundamental purpose of providing necessary support to law enforcement agencies in other to maintain security, especially at the community level.
LDU is seeking for discipline, motivated and patriotic citizen free of criminal record to join the force to ensure the overall achievement of set goals.
The next LDU recruitment exercise was announced on 22nd March 2025 and application is still ongoing.
Requirements for LDU Recruitment 2025
How do you know you can apply for Local Defence Units recruitment in 2025? Well, here are the eligibility criteria:
- First, all applicants must be citizens of Uganda.
- No candidates below 18 or above 35 years is permitted to apply.
- It is mandatory that you’re a resident of the area where you will be recruited.
- Applicant must be both medically, mentally and bodily fit.
- Applications from ex-convicts won’t be accepted.
- Candidates applying must have at least P7 and S4 certificates.
- Your application letter must be duly signed by the area LCI, LCII, & LCIII Chairpersons, GISCO or DISO and RDC.

How Will the Recruitment Be Done?
According to UPDF, LDU recruitment will be carried out via the projected population of each district/city of Uganda. This will determine how many people gets recruited at the end of the exercise.
The process will set off with application which is ongoing, after then a review will be carried out on submitted applications, then names of successful candidates will be released.
Candidates who passes this stage will go for training and finally deployment, uniforms and salary allocation will be made.
How to Apply for LDU Recruitment in 2025
- Simply visit the official recruitment portals www.updf.go.ug or www.defence.go.ug
- Select your preferred position
- Write an application letter
- Attach copies of relevant documents and then submit.
Alternative, you can visit the nearest UPDF office in your city or district to get the application form and then follow up with instructions given.
Local Defence Units Job Application Deadline 2025
The closing date for Local Defence Units (LDU) recruitment is 10th April, 2025 at 5:00pm. Candidates who fails to submit their application on or before the set deadline shall be disqualified. Also, only shortlisted candidates shall be contacted.
